Lights
Make sure the front and rear lights are working as well as the brake lights.
Indicators
At the same time, also check that all your indicator lights are working, and don’t forget to use them when on the road!
Fluids
When filling up with petrol for the trip, ask the attendant to also check your oil, windscreen water, and engine water levels.
Tyres
While at the petrol station also have the air pressure of your tyres checked (you will find the correct pressure located on the sticker inside the driver’s door) and don’t forget to check your tyre tread – anything below 1.6mm tread and the tyre should be replaced.
Hooter
Give a quick toot to test that your hooter is functioning
Emergency Equipment
Make sure your car has all the necessary emergency equipment should you encounter a problem on the road. Here are a few things you should always have in your car:
- Reflective Triangle
- Spare Tyre
- Tools to change a tyre
- Torch
License (Yours and your vehicles)
Obviously, your license and your vehicle’s license both need to be valid to be on the road.
